Red

RED is a piece of software that has been developed entirely by the Sandbox team. It is an interactive screen that holds a number of tools within. RED is Sandbox’s answer to the flipchart. It is a technological toolkit that allows groups of people to anonymously and collaboratively communicate, explore and drill down in real-time on topics that require a shared understanding and/or future focus.

One of RED’s most popular tools is its question and answer system. It allows our facilitators to ask a question to the group and for everyone within the group to respond simultaneously via individual iPads. All of their answers appear on the screen in real-time as they type.

This system has three main benefits:
1. Every participant has a voice. Rather than the most confident members of the group answering every question, this system allows everyone within the group to contribute throughout. Therefore enabling group decisions to be reached and complete engagement.
2. It allows participants to answer anonymously. We therefore find that users are far more honest and are happy to type things they wouldn’t necessarily feel comfortable with saying out loud in front of the group.
3. It is a very fast and in-depth system. Within minutes the whole group’s answers to one question are on the screen. This speed allows our facilitators to explore topics in depth and cover far more questions than if they had a flipchart and pen.

This question and answer system can also be used to merge, sort and vote on the answers; To branch out immediately on trends and opportunities visible; To organise ideas, concepts and actions that need to be undertaken and linking those graphically; To gather and summarize discussions; To digitally capture a whole workshop for easy post analysis and distribution.

Red is sandbox’s answer to the flipchart, but is also so much more. This question an answer system is only one for the hundreds of tools RED holds.
