So often, simple is best. Sandbox develops cutting edge facilitation technologies, but we use them sparingly and appropriately. We believe that the core of really effective facilitation is communication. Conversation can, so often, be key. The World Café process is one that centres on conversation, and can allow organisations to truly talk with their employees. Employee-based steering groups are elected and, through effective facilitation, identify main areas of risk and opportunity for the organisation.
They then create powerful, engaging questions relating to these. The culmination of this is the discussion of these topics by the employees themselves. A relaxed, informal, café-style event is created where people are mixed together and asked to tackle the questions creatively, sketch, write and discuss. Discussion flows throughout the space, as a result of directing people to travel between groups and thus disperse ideas, which are captured graphically and digitally. This system allows ideas and actions to be clustered and major opportunity areas are identified and prioritised. Through this form of engagement individuals understand that they can contribute to change both as an individual and as part of a larger organisation.
